They Don’t Need To Understand

Andy Biersack of Black Veil Brides and Andy Black wrote a book that’s expected to hit shelves December 8th, and I’m already hooked.

𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐘 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓 𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐎 𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐃⁣⁣ is “a story of personal belief and tenacity in the face of the demons and fears that burden all of us in our journey to find purpose and happiness.”

The title alone was enough to hook me — despite the fact that Biersack is a self-made success at 30, with a professional music career that’s lasted over a decade, the title has been a steady truth in my own life. It’s one it took me a while to get to though. The title holds a lot of weight for many reasons. The reason it’s hitting home for me is that I believe we are the only ones who can decide what we truly want out of life. There have been several times in my own life where the people who love and support me didn’t/don’t understand what I’m going after. You can spend the time trying to reason with people or get them on the same page, but the majority of the time, you’ll leave frustrated, drained, or discouraged. I believe this is why so many self-help, esoteric, or occult practices call for secrecy. It’s an age-old truth that our minds are easily influenced, even when it involves what we want most. The closest to us mean well, but those well-meaning comments can take away a lot of steam when you’re pursuing your dream. I think this is the meaning behind the aphorism “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”

Some of our brains are wired differently. This could be environmental or genetic… I’m not really sure. But I believe we know who we are as individuals. To those of us who are wired differently, the title of this book speaks volumes. It’s worthy of becoming our next mantra. It’s a reminder to stay focused on our goals. Of course we should keep our closest loved ones in the loop, but if they don’t understand, we need to be okay with that and choose to follow our own path. If they love us, they will support us despite their uncertainty. And if they don’t, follow your path anyway. There’s a lot more fulfillment in creating our own trails than in giving into conformity.

If we can judge a book by its title, I believe this one is going to hold and deliver a great deal of power to its readers. I’ve heard a few interviews with Biersack over the years. The experiences he’s shared and the wisdom he’s gained are sure to offer up something tangible for us all to take home. I’m personally hoping for more ghost stories, but if this one doesn’t deliver on that front, maybe there’s an idea for the next book… Either way, this dude’s career success has already been a massive personal inspiration. I don’t doubt this book will deliver something needed.

⁣⁣I’m so excited to share with you guys that my debut book is available now for preorder! This book is a collection of stories from my childhood growing up in Cincinnati, my early days chasing my dreams for a career in music and some key moments over the past 10 years of touring and recording in BVB. This book isn’t some salacious tell all memoir from a 29 year old or an instructional guide to being in a band, it’s a story of personal belief and tenacity in the face of the demons and fears that burden all of us in our journey to find purpose and happiness. I wanted to share with you guys my story and hopefully show that if success on any level can happen for me it can certainly happen for you. There is nothing remarkable about me, I have just fought hard to be heard and have been extremely fortunate to have garnered an audience of so many of you over the past 10 years. I was a lonely kid in Ohio who dreamt of being a rock star, found success as a teenager, lost track of myself and who I was and have spent the second half of my 20’s working every day to be someone that is worthy of your  support.
